Quick Ways to Set Up Netgear WiFi Extender

Must Read

Setting up a Netgear extender is a simple process but still, some users find it difficult to do so. So, here we have provided detailed information on how to set up a Netgear WiFi extender.

To amplify the signals of your WiFi, you need to establish a connection between your Netgear extender and your existing WiFi network. There are two methods to set up your Netgear WiFi extender.

  • Using WPS method
  • Using Netgear Genie smart setup wizard

Here, we have discussed both the ways to set up a Netgear extender in the below section.

Netgear Extender Setup Using WPS Method

WiFi Protected Setup (WPS) method allows you to connect their extenders to the existing network without entering the network name and password. The WPS button is located on both the Netgear extender and router. This method doesn’t support WEP security. And if you are using WEP security then you are required to set up your Netgear extender using Netgear Genie smart setup method.

  • First, you need to look for the WPS button on your Netgear extender.

  • Once you have located the WPS button, press the button until the WPS LED starts flashing.

  • Then, press the WPS button on your Netgear router until the WPS LED on your extender turned to solid green.

  • For the 5GHz band, follow the same procedure to connect to your Netgear extender.

  • In the network list, you’ll see the extender network with the same name as your existing network but with_2GEXT or _5GEXT depending on your WiFi network through which it is connected.

  • Now, connect your WiFi-enabled devices to your extender using the same password as your Netgear router.

  • Remove the Netgear extender from the power source and set it to your preferred location where you want it to be placed. Just make sure that it’s within the range of your Netgear router.

  • Then, connect your extender again to the power socket and turn it on.

  • Connect your WiFi-enabled devices to your extender network and enjoy high-speed internet services throughout your home.

Using Netgear Genie Smart Setup Wizard

  • Power on your Netgear extender and your PC.

  • On your PC, access an updated version of the internet browser and type Netgear default URL ‘mywifiext.net’ in the address bar.

  • Press the Enter button.

  • You’ll come across the mywifiext.net login page where you need to enter the default username and password and click Log In.

Important Note: Refer to the user manual for the Netgear extender default username and password.

  • Once you’ve successfully logged in, the Netgear Genie smart setup wizard will come into view where you need to select the 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz network which you want to extend.

  • Then, enter the Network password and click Continue.

  • Choose the radio button adjacent to the Private network or Public Network according to your requirement and click Continue.

  • Now, enter the extender network name (SSID) in the specific field.

  • Next, you can use the same security setting as your existing network by selecting the Check box and then click Continue to save the settings you have made.

  • Now, browse to the Network Manager on your PC and connect to the newly created extender’s network.

  • Enter the password and click Continue.

  • Finally, your Netgear extender setup is completed. Now, you can place your extender according to your requirements.

Important Note: If you are using a MAC device, enter mywifiext.local in the address bar to access the Netgear Genie setup wizard.

Hopefully, the aforementioned steps will help you to set up a Netgear extender without any trouble. If you want to setup your Netgear extender without any issue, then carefully walk through the steps.
