If you wear braided wigs and dread looking in the mirror every morning to see that it’s gotten tangled, you’re not alone! In fact, knots in your braided wig are one of the biggest frustrations people have with these types of wigs. Luckily, there are some things you can do to make the lives of both yourself and your stylist a little easier by keeping your knotless braid wig fresh so that they aren’t spending time untangling knots every time they touch up your style!

1) Clean it

Before you do anything else, give your wig a good cleaning. Get out a wig brush or comb and work through all of your knots. Be sure to get in between all of your wefts as well. If there’s too much hair or dirt in any of these spaces, it can cause major damage to your style and even cause tangling. Remove all knots with a pair of scissors if you can’t untangle them with just your fingers and one tool. Don’t forget about adding detangler or conditioner as part of this process; we recommend using a leave-in conditioner after you shampoo so that you don’t have excess buildup.

2) Brush it with a wig brush

Keeping a good wig brush around is an easy way to keep your hair looking great. Regular brushing of your knotless braid wig will help distribute oils from your scalp, reducing any itchiness you might feel in your wig. It’s also a great way to fluff up curls and keep them bouncy! Additionally, use a wig brush before washing – it’ll reduce tangling when you wash.

3) Find the perfect wig cap

You want a wig cap that is comfortable, but also durable and breathable. To ensure you get a good fit, wear your wig around before using it. You can also wear your hair as you normally would under a wig cap. The fit of your wig should be snug enough to hold everything in place; some people find it helpful to have someone else adjust their cap for them so they can get an idea of how it will look in public. When looking for new caps, try on at least three brands before settling on one because there is not one size fits all when it comes to wigs. Depending on your head shape and size, you might need something very different from what another person prefers.

4) Store it right

The biggest thing you can do to keep your wig fresh is store it correctly. Never wear a wet wig, and remember: It’s a lot like taking care of your natural hair! Most natural-hair stylists recommend sleeping with a satin or silk scarf on when you have braids or twists, so don’t forget that with wigs as well. A clean pillowcase goes along way toward making sure your tresses stay in good shape, too! Store your wig on a mannequin head if possible; otherwise you should place it on top of its box (never in it), laying flat but not touching any other items. It’s always best if you can keep your wig out of direct sunlight, which will help prevent fading over time.

5) Wash your hands before handling

Wash your hands well with mild soap and water, or use hand sanitizer if soap and water are not available. This will keep product residue from getting onto your wig. It also keeps oils from your skin off of it. In addition, you can use a clean cloth to wipe down wigs between uses. If you’re using a glueless lace wig, take care not to get glue on your lace front wig; Most cheapest place to live in California hairspray residue can cause glueless lace wigs to discolor over time. Simply wipe down with a damp cloth after each wear for best results!
