The Dangers Of Drug Addiction

Must Read

The exact danger that drug addiction poses to an addict very much depends on a number of different factors, including the type of drug being used and how long it is used for. However, something that these dangers do have in common is that they not only impact upon the user themselves but also others around them, such as friends, family members, colleagues, and members of the community.

Physical dangers

Some of the physical dangers that the user may experience include overdose, injury, death, developing a tolerance to the drug, various health problems, and withdrawal symptoms when it comes to cutting back on the substance or substances. Some of the consequences that may be wider on either a social, interpersonal, or professional level include involvement in criminal behavior, neglecting school and / or work responsibilities, jeopardizing family and friends, and potentially becoming pregnant and even harming the baby.

Establishing the exact point where recreational drug use turns into an addiction is something that is not easy to identify, even for trained professionals. What is not difficult to identify however is the serious damage and harm that drug addiction causes. The harm is very far reaching.

Damage to health

Once a person has reached the point that they are addicted to a drug or drugs, it is likely to be the case that they have stopped looking after their personal health. This may either be because they no longer care or are no longer able to. Some of the health problems that drug addiction can cause include infertility or impotence, heart failure, seizures, lung damage, psychosis, rapid or irregular heart rate, blood based diseases like HIV or hepatitis, high blood pressure, memory and learning issues, respiratory depression and coma.

Along with addiction come the very real risk of being exposed to sexually transmitted infections (STIs), car accidents, self inflicted or accident injury, and violence. One reason for this is being addicted to a substance or substances makes it difficult for an individual to make wise decisions and so they may end up putting themselves in unnecessary danger, such as getting in a car with a drunk driver.

The causes

The exact thing or things that cause drug addiction are still relatively unknown. That being said, there are some things that may contribute to drug addiction developing. This includes things such as peer pressure, genetics, a low sense of self worth, a mental disorder, emotional distress, and exposure to some certain environments, e.g. ones where there is open drug use. For any women in the state of Texas that are struggling with drug addiction, then they should reach out to Emerge Recovery TX where they can get the help that they need.

Unfortunately, education by itself is not sufficient to help an addict kick their habit. That being said, if a person learns all about the dangers that come with being addicted to drugs, it can act as a vital step in putting off anyone who is thinking about experimenting with drugs for the first time.
