Find content on your smartphone with “In Apps”

Big G launches “In Apps”, a new way to find content on the Android smartphone through apps.

What is In Apps? It is a new search tab developed by Google in addition to the Android apps.

How does it work? In Google Apps, like Apple’s Spotlight, it allows you to search on your smartphone without having to connect to the network.

Now let’s see in more detail what it is and how it works, starting from this illustration:

At the moment, the feature is active for Gmail, Spotify and YouTube. For the other apps, including Facebook Messenger, LinkedIn, Evernote, Google Keep, Glide and Todoist, support will be available in the coming months.

The search app is located locally on your phone, so even if you’re not connected to the network, you can still find the information you’re looking for.

Searching your phone, not the web

Currently, Google supports Firebase App Indexing (formerly Google App Indexing), which allows information obtained from Google searches on the internet to be recorded on apps. This allows you to see the found content directly on the apps.

Remember that the “In App” search is characterized by being device-specific , so it allows you to search directly among the contents of your phone.

Google has also announced that the new LG V20 will have a dedicated link for the In App search, while it will be present on other phones only in the near future.

This link allows you to use the In App function directly, without having to search the web.

If, on the other hand, you do not have the direct connection, you can still access it either by starting the Google app on Android or through a search on the Google widget search bar, present on many Android phones.
